Pimp my imp

One of the concerns I've heard voiced about the imp is that it cannot communicate directly with other devices on the LAN. It can communicate over the internet via the Planner, but this requires poking all kinds of holes in firewalls, and maybe writing vimps to talk the right protocol, which isn't currently exposed to third parties.

I thought I'd solve this problem, more or less, by connecting an imp to a general purpose dev board, in this case the recently launched Raspberry Pi.  Pi + Imp = Pimp, of course, which is enough reason on its own to do the project.

I came up with this:

This is amazing!

Thanks.  It’s really a hack but I needed something to show at a Raspberry Jam later in the month   The Jam in question is kind of a rebirth of an Acorn (ARM) computer usergroup of which Hugo from Electric Imp was a member over 20 years ago, so it seemed appropriate!

The Pimp was well received at the Raspberry Jam in Bristol last night, and there was a lot of interest in Electric Imp. I’ve posted on my blog and included a link to the Pimp repo on github, although I’d give it a few days before cloning so I can get it to Alpha-1 kind of level at least.

So stoked on this. Great work!

I will try to get some documentation together for our project as well which was a huge success… :)
