Enclosures, light pipes and Blinkup

I recently put my “jTherm” project in one of the clear enclosures from Sparkfun. I mounted the LED/OPTO circuit near an edge on purpose thinking that I would have to take the case apart if I made a Wifi change. The case is clear, but lightly frosted everywhere except for an area on the top.

This morning, I decided to see if I could Blinkup the Imp through the case, and sure enough, I can. This got me to thinking about using light pipes. Has anyone performed a Blinkup through a light pipe?

It is possible, as the imp itself has a light pipe, but usually you just use one - every interface between pipes is a significant loss.

Many people are using modules with light pipes to get the light to the sensor (and display the LEDs)
