Drive a Switec micro stepper directly from an Imp?

Would it be practical for me to drive a Switec X27 micro stepper motor (typically used in automobile gauges) directly from an Imp, without a motor controller board? I’m building an analog bicycle speedometer, and I’d like to use an Imp for the heavy lifting.

I’m using this breakout for the Switec; Guy Carpenter has kindly posted an Arduino library, as well as a client-server implementation.

The breakout page refers to 5v and 20mA per coil, way outside the 4mA and 3.3v capability of imp outputs. So you will need to drive it with some appropriate ic or transistors, as in the example here.
