Blinked Up New Imp - automatically assigned to a model?

Had an imp running for several months that failed (stuff happens). Bought a new imp to replace it. When I blinked the new imp up, it did not appear in the ‘unassigned devices’ section of the IDE. The new imp automatically got assigned to the model of the failed imp and started working. Nice thing to happen, but how did the IDE know how to do that?

If your configuration consists (as I suspect) of an imp001 and something like an April board, the April board is what identifies the device, not the imp001. Therefore, you could swap out boat loads of imp001 cards in the same April board and the device would always show up in the same model. It’s a different story for the imp002 and imp003.

Thanks for the reply. Your explanation is spot on.
