Announcement: Agent FTP Functionality now Deprecated

Developers who are using, or plan to use, FTP to transfer data to and from agents should note that we have now deprecated this functionality and plan to remove it entirely in the very near future.

FTP is an inherently insecure transport. Traffic is not encrypted: all transmissions are in clear text, including usernames, passwords, commands and data — all of which can be read by anyone able to capture packets on the network.

Instead, agents should use HTTPS, which is already supported by agents, to transfer data securely.

Please update any Squirrel application code which currently uses FTP.

If you have an questions about this deprecation notice, please post them here.

Thanks!
