Perhaps this could be used as a last resort if the firewall ports are blocked

Release notes for version 30 list TCP port 993 as a fall back for port 31314. Could I suggest as a last resort DNS be used as a channel to signal wifi, DHCP is good but both TCP sessions blocked.

Say for example that both 31314 and 993 are blocked, then the IMP could DNS lookup notcp.237ffeeb1234ee.server.electricimp.com as a way of getting a diagnostics message through.

Just a suggestion.

Interesting thought indeed (though does require us to run our own DNS servers). The problem then is what you actually do about it…

It could save some time on the phone to users, easier troubleshoot if the IMP can at least get a minimal message through to the logs.

The DNS server could return CNAME response letting the IMP know that at least the DNS channel worked.
