Is it possible to use the Imp shield as a breakout board without attaching it to anything? If so, how can i power it and is there anything special needs to be done with it?

It get it’s power through the Arduino headers
The imp shield doesn’t depend on the Arduino for anything other than power.
Can I ask the reason for using the imp shield vs an April, or other dev board?
I was just looking for use of the unloved shield instead of throwing it away. Plus UK supply of April boards is often a little dry… 
I like those 2 leds on pin 8 and 9, just to debug
